All the bloggers struggle for the traffic to their blog or websites. We’ll use the term blog here instead of website. This traffic can be of various forms. You can get them through search engines, referrals or direct and other methods. Above all search engine traffic which is called natural traffic is the best source of getting high visitors to your blog.
Search engines work on different algorithms to analyze the contents and keywords, and present the search results. Google, for instance, assigns page ranks to the blogs and blogs that rank highly will appear early in the results. Of course, many other factors are considered by search engines, such as relevance, unique content, coding and quality of links. The major search engines know that revealing these factors will only encourage manipulation of the ranking system and have thus been secretive about how the ranking algorithms work.
No any SEO consultant can exactly tell you how each search engine views your blog; the common concept is that the more visible your blog is on the internet, the higher your ranking will eventually be. Having your blog linked to by many other blogs and indexed by different search engines increase its exposure and visibility.
Many big webmaster or bloggers are in success today because they get a lot of natural traffic through search engines to their blogs. This traffic doesn’t come overnight. It takes many months or years to get those as your pages takes time to appears in the front page or say top 10 pages which results in higher traffic. So if you start working on submitting your blogs to this search engines and working on increasing page ranks from now onwards then you’ll get a fruitful result in the near future.
The most popular search engines of now are Google, Yahoo and MSN. Getting your blog listed in these are very important. One of the fastest ways to have your blog indexed is to get another blog that is already in the search engine listings to link to you. When the search engine crawlers visit that blog, they will find your blog and index it. Try this method if you do not want to wait for search engines to approve your blog submission.
There are some search engines which charge a fee for submission but I’ll talk here only about free submissions of blogs to search engines. The three major search engines which offers free submissions are Google, Yahoo and MSN. Free submission could result in much lower traffic, a low rank and longer period of time before your blog actually shows up in the results returned by the search engines at starting. My blog is only 1 and 1/2 months old and it is indexed in all the three major search engines.
In this article, I shall provide a list of search engines where you can submit your Blog URLs for Free and have your Blog indexed by the search engines.
Check out these Important points before you submit your blog to search engines:-
- To check if your blog has been indexed by a search engine, enter the full blog URL into their search query. If you see your blog appearing in the search results, it has been indexed and there is no need to resubmit the blog.
- When submitting your blog, you do not need to submit the URL of each individual web page. Submit only the top-level web pages and for Blogger Blogs, it will be an address like this http://blogname.com or http://blogname.blogspot.com without the www. before the blogname.
- Some of the sites send advertisements and newsletters to you in exchange for free submission. If you don’t want that, remember to opt out of it. Avoid having your regular email account filled with these mail by creating another free web-based email account just for website submissions.
- Since search engines have different standards of content, design and technical specifications, submission of your site does not guarantee that it will be included in their database.
