Sometimes we have to leave the important work on computer in hurry for a while and of course leaving computer open without locking or shutting down is at great risks, if someone mess up with our current working data or any project then we’ll be at great losts. Yeah almost all computer users are afraid of this scenario but now there is no need to fear as we can lock our computer just by double clicking the shortcut icon on the desktop to quickly lock the keyboard and display without using Ctrl + Alt + Del or screensaver.

Here’s the simple steps to create a shortcut on your desktop to lock your computer:-

  1. Right click on the desktop.
  2. Point to New and select Shortcut.
  3. You will then see a Popup Window(Create Shortcut Wizard).
  4. In ‘Type the location of the item’, key in ‘rundll32.exe user32.dll LockWorkStation‘.
  5. Click ‘Next’ and you will be prompt to name the Shortcut. Give it any name you want and click ‘Finish’.

You can also change the shorctut’s icon, follow this simple steps.

  1. Right click the shortcut and then select Properties.
  2. Click the Shortcut tab, and the click the Change Icon button.
  3. In the Look for icons in this file text box, type: shell32.dll
  4. Click ok.
  5. Select one of the icons from the list and then click ok

You could also give it a shortcut keystroke such Ctrl + Alt + L. This would save you only one keystroke from the normal command, but it could be more convenient.

Here’s the simple step’s to add a shortcut keystroke:-

  1. Right click the shortcut and then select Properties.
  2. Click on the Shortcut tab.
  3. In the Shortcut Key text box, type any key and Windows XP will convert it to a shortcut, usually in combination with the Ctrl + Alt keys.

To lock your keyboard and display, double click the shortcut or use the Shortcut keys

Also there is another great and simple way to lock your computer. Any compatible keyboard that includes the Windows logo key and the Application key can also lock your computer. To use this trick.

Press the Windows logo key + L.
